Few things go together like sausage and gumbo, but when it's our Johnsonville Hot Italian Sausage, it's the perfect pairing. Classic gumbo flavours are combined in this slow cooker recipe, like peppers, tomatoes, onions and spices. Best of all, preparing this recipe is as easy as a little chopping and letting your slow cooker do the rest. Enjoy!
Add diced tomatoes and chicken broth to slow cooker.
Create a flour mixture for thickening gumbo. Sprinkle flour into pan and cook on high for 4-5 minutes (until flour begins to brown). Reduce heat to medium and stir as it continues to cook for another 3-4 minutes. Evenly add cooking oil while continuously stirring and continue stirring until smooth. Add mixture to slow cooker and whisk carefully until evenly blended.
Add remaining ingredients, excluding rice and parsley, and mix together well. Cover and cook on low for approximately 4-5 hours.
Serve gumbo with warm cooked rice and garnish with chopped parsley.
