Caramelized Apple and Maple Breakfast Sausage
Great mornings don’t come from a box. They start with the sizzle and smell of Johnsonville Maple Syrup Flavour Breakfast Sausage combined with the sweet taste of caramelized apples. Add currants or pomegranate seeds for even more flavour to a meal destined to become one of your favorites.
What You Need
1/4stick of butter
3large apples - peeled, cored and sliced
1/4 cupcurrants or pomegranate seeds
- In a 12″ skillet, cook the sausage and the butter over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Remove the sausage from the pan, cut each link into thirds, and set aside.
- Cook the apple slices in the same pan for about 12 minutes, mixing often. Add the currants (or pomegranate) when the apples are mostly browned.
- Add the sausage links to the caramelized apples and heat for about 5-6 minutes until sausage is cooked to an internal temperature of 180°F / 82°C.
- Season with salt and pepper
Tip Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon for a touch more sweetness.
